About me

Danielle Wallace, Corporate Leader to Sports Therapist

With over 25 years of volleyball experience—from high school to Division 1 and post-grad beach volleyball—and 10 years coaching youth, I understand the mental and emotional demands athletes face. After 17 years in corporate marketing, I earned my Master’s in Social Work and now help athletes build resilience, manage performance anxiety, and recover from injury. I combine athletic insight with clinical expertise to support athletes both on and off the field.

Therapeutic Angles

I use many evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help athletes develop in four CORE areas—Cognitive, Operational, Relational, and Emotional—so they can build resilience and perform at their highest level. Some of the most effective methods I use include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – to challenge and reshape unhelpful thought patterns.

  • Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) – to manage emotions by addressing irrational beliefs.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) – to strengthen mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation.

  • Narrative Therapy – to help athletes take ownership of their stories and identities.

  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) – to create clear, actionable steps toward goals.

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) – to build intrinsic motivation and commitment to change.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – to increase psychological flexibility and focus on values-driven action.

  • Mindfulness-Based Interventions – to enhance present-moment awareness and performance under pressure.

  • Somatic Therapy – to connect mind and body, helping athletes release tension, process stress, and improve overall well-being

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) – to improve emotional bonds, communication, and resolve relational conflicts.

Each athlete is unique, so I tailor these approaches to fit their needs, helping them grow stronger mentally and emotionally—on and off the field, court, track, rink, and in everyday life.

Coaching vs. Therapy

While coaching focuses on skill development and achieving performance goals, therapy addresses the deeper emotional and mental challenges athletes face. Therapy builds resilience, helps manage stress and anxiety, and supports recovery from setbacks—providing the mental strength athletes need to perform consistently and maintain balance both on and off the field.
